Who We Are

Minority Watch is a news platform dedicated to shedding light on the challenges faced by minority groups worldwide, with a particular focus on Bangladesh.

This community-driven initiative is led by expatriate Bangladeshis based in the USA and Canada, with its headquarters located in Washington, D.C. The platform delivers news and perspectives in both English and Bangla.

Beyond running our news portal, we strive to build a strong and engaging social media presence. Our goals include producing high-quality audiovisual content and hosting live discussions to foster meaningful conversations about minority rights.

What Do We Mean by “Minority”?

By “minority group,” we refer to individuals who face disadvantages compared to the dominant group in society. These disadvantages often arise from visible characteristics or practices such as gender, ethnicity, race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.

Intersectionality plays a vital role in our understanding of minorities. People may belong to multiple minority groups simultaneously—for instance, being both a racial and religious minority. Additionally, an individual may experience marginalization in certain areas of life while enjoying privilege in others.

Minority groups frequently encounter discrimination across sectors like housing, employment, healthcare, and education. This may occur overtly but more often stems from entrenched structural inequalities that limit access to opportunities and resources.

We are committed to reporting on laws, policies, and initiatives aimed at protecting minorities from discrimination and ensuring their equal standing in society.
