A video of a boy sexually assaulting a girl is being shared on social media with a claim that the minority community Hindu girls get harassed frequently in Kerala. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be seen here.

Claim: Video shows a Hindu girl molested in Kerala.

Fact: Video in the post shows a girl being sexually assaulted and filmed by a group of three men in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, in 2017. It is an old video and has nothing to do with Hindu girls in Kerala. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of screenshots in the video, similar visuals were found in a video posted by ‘The Times of India’ news website on their YouTube channel on ’26 September 2017’. In the description of the video, it is mentioned that a minor girl was molested and filmed by her molesters in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. Describing the incident in detail, ‘Times Now’ published an article on ‘27 September 2017’. In the article, it is mentioned that three boys had sexually assaulted a girl and filmed her. This incident took place in Kanigiri town of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh. It is mentioned in the article that a boy among the three, asked his friend to molest his girlfriend while they took her for a picnic. He filmed the incident while his friend molested his girlfriend and later circulated the video on social media. After the girl’s parents lodged the complaint, the Kanigiri police arrested the three youth involved in this incident.

Similar visuals with the same description were found in the videos posted by ‘NewsX’ and ‘Tv9’ news channels. They can be seen here and here.

To sum it up, a 2017 molestation video of a girl from Andhra Pradesh is falsely shared as the molestation video of Hindu girl in Kerala.
