The incident came to light on Friday morning when worshipers found the idols lying on the floor
Unidentified miscreants have vandalized four idols of Hindu gods and goddesses in Gazipur.
The incident happened at the Kali Mandir in Gazipur City’s Dakkhin Salna area early Friday.
Gazipur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan said the miscreants entered the temple in Miabari area in the dead of the night and vandalized the idols.
The incident came to light on Friday morning when worshipers found the idols lying on the floor, he said.
“We are investigating the matter. However we haven’t detained anyone in this connection yet. Higher officials of the police visited the scene,” the police official added.
Naresh Ray, president of the Temple Management Committee, said some of the influential locals had been trying to evict the temple from that land for a long time.
“They tried to evict the temple on Thursday also. However, they failed as some of the locals protested. Because of the incident, they vandalized the temple at night,” Naresh claimed.
Gazipur city Puja Udjapan Parishad strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the people involved in the incident.
